The Mystery Yeast Infection Solved

The mystery yeast infection – Candida Albicans – has become very common among many Americans. Common, and yet, almost as hard to get rid of as graffiti on abandoned buildings.

Finally, the mystery of yeast infections has been solved. You'll learn what yeast infection is, how it works, what causes it and how you can get rid of it.

Candida is yeast that lives within our digestive system. It has the amazing ability to change from yeast into a fungus and thus become a commonplace nuisance. As a fungus it behaves in much the same manner as athletes foot, a condition that's plagued many of us for years.

We all have Candida, but it usually is kept in low levels within our intestinal tract actually feeding the friendly bacteria that live in our digestive system. As long as a balance is kept there are no problems.

However, with the onset of today’s modern, so called “miracle drugs” such as antibiotics, birth control pills, cortisone and chemotherapy, the friendly bacterium suffers and the balance is broken. And if modern day medicine does not do enough, our habits of taking street drugs, drinking large amounts of alcohol and eating junk food all aid in destroying the friendly bacteria.

Candida has two phases of development. The first phase is a simple sugar fermenting yeast that begins to rob our bodies of its vital nutrients. If not caught during this phase, it goes into its second phase, where it becomes a deadly fungus and begins to grow.

Once the friendly bacteria have been destroyed, the yeast has the opportunity to grow and overtake our entire digestive system. It is like a giant plant with a root structure and it does not stay contained within the wall of our intestinal tract, it can break out and grow elsewhere. Literally no part of our body is safe from this ever-growing fungus.

What Are the Symptoms?

This particular condition is very frustrating as it can and does produce over 100 different symptoms. A sufferer of Candida can have up to 20 or more of the symptoms and no one doctor can actually find what the person is suffering from.

Symptoms can range from an intolerance of odors and fumes to spots before your eyes. There is no set of symptoms that is common to all people. Many have been told that it is all “in your head” because the symptoms are so diverse and unrelated to each other. It takes certain tests and a practitioner that is familiar with the fungus to really figure things out.

Symptoms will get worse during hot humid weather as it truly is a fungus. Diet plays an important part also since sugar, alcohol, starches, fermented foods, sweets (even fruits) will increase the symptoms by feeding the yeast in your system.

Our bodies are in a constant battle regulating the delicate acid/ alkaline balance needed for our bodies to run smoothly. If there is an imbalance, the possibility for all kinds of toxic microforms and candida can happen.

The choice of the foods we eat plays an important role in keeping that balance intact. Our basic diet is acidic, we indulge in all the wrong things to eat. To maintain a more alkaline diet we should be concentrating on foods that are low in sugar such as tomatoes, lemons, limes and grapefruit.

We should also eat more green vegetables, sprouts, nuts and essential oils. These foods are not only more alkaline, but they are also low in calories and high in vitamins and antioxidants.

Eating the wrong foods and then adding stress to the situation, you increase the problem ten fold as stress lowers the immune system and will cause an increase in the Candida.

What are the Causes of Candida?

Some of the causes of Candida are rather surprising; for instance antibiotics are a common cause. Antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria. If the good bacteria has been destroyed by the antibiotics, the candida jumps in and starts taking over. Anyone who has been on long term antibiotics (7 – 10 days) is a prime candidate for this problem.

Birth control pills, because of the synthetic form of estrogen used, can cause a yeast infection, as can the copper IUD used for birth control.

High Stress levels can cause yeast growth. Stress causes the release of a hormone called Cortisol. Cortisol can depress the immune system and raise the blood sugar in your system. The increase in blood sugar is food for the yeast and allows it to grow.

Tap Water that is high in Chlorine can also destroy friendly intestinal bacteria.

Parasites and intestinal worms are another cause. Yes, I know that that is hard to believe in this day and age, but it is true. About 85 percent of us have parasites or small microorganisms lingering in our intestinal tract and they too, destroy the friendly bacteria.

Constipation can be caused by candida and it also can cause candida! Your digestive tract becomes very slow moving when it becomes constipated and thus provides a place for candida to feed. Constipation for any reason can easily cause candida.

Drugs and alcohol can cause candida. Alcohol because of the sugar content can feed the yeast cells and make them deliriously happy, while any drugs that can cause a gastrointestinal side effect can cause yeast growth by disturbing the friendly bacteria.

The thyroid has an important effect on the immune system and also helps the digestive system operate correctly. A malfunctioning thyroid often causes a drop in body temperature that in turn stops many different chemical changes from going on in the body and thus can cause a reduction of friendly bacteria.

An Immune Deficiency such as Aids or cancer can help bring on a case of candida.

Hormonal Imbalance, which is caused, by an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone can become a cause for yeast to grow.

Excessive bowel cleansing such as colonics can be over done and cause the destruction of friendly bacteria. If the friendly bacteria is not replaced candida may grow.

I have listed some of the causes of candida, but not all. The list continues, however these have been some of the more noteworthy ones.
